Nearly 50% of the population feels nervous or uncomfortable about going to the dentist or having dental procedures done. Dr. Janet Gonzalez and her team have dedicated themselves to making patients comfortable and at ease during dental exams and procedures. It is our belief that with Conscious Oral Sedation Dentistry we can treat patients so desperately in need of dental care but who are too afraid to seek the care they need.

In an open and caring atmosphere patients can be provided pain-free dental care knowing they are not being judged or looked down upon because of their anxiety over dentistry. We strive to excel at the technical aspects of dentistry but just as important we strive to care for the patient's emotional needs. There will be times that just getting through the door for a consultation will be a small victory for some of our patients. We know the importance of that first step and we are committed to providing compassion and starting a relationship built on trust. We take your fear seriously and are dedicated to providing a dental experience that will both improve your dental health and lessen you dental fears.

If you are someone who hasn't been to the dentists in years because of fear and anxiety, Dr. Gonzalez is committed to providing you with a safe and pain free dental experience.

How you may Feel

Most patients remember very little about their treatment. You will need someone to bring you to our office on the day of your sedation appointment and you MUST have someone to take you home afterwards.

Safety of Sedation

The reason that we use oral sedation is because of its safety. We use special equipment to monitor your pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen levels. You'll be done before you know it, completely unaware of the time passing, totally relaxed.

Nitrous or Laughing Gas

If a lighter sedation is all that you need, we do offer nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. It is coupled with oxygen and administered through a comfortable mask over your nose. It places you in a very relaxed state though still conscious. It produces a very pleasant sensation and reduces sensitivity to pain. Nitrous is safe for almost all patients, including those with high blood pressure and children. However, it cannot be administered to those that are pregnant. Another advantage of nitrous oxide is the effects are usually completely reversible when the gas is turned off. You will then breathe 100% oxygen for about 5 minutes and then are usually fully capable of driving yourself home.

There are a few side effects associated with nitrous oxide. High doses can cause nausea in some patients and about 10% of patients do not benefit from it. Patients that are claustrophobic or have blocked nasal passages cannot use nitrous oxide effectively.
