At birth people usually have 20 primary (baby) teeth, which often erupt through the gums as early as six months of age.
These teeth are then shed at various times throughout childhood. By age 21, all 32 of the permanent teeth have usually erupted.

Researches have been tracking the link between the health of the mouth in relation to the health of the body. Studies have linked gum disease (periodontal disease) with heart disease (cardiovascular disease). The bacteria in your mouth can enter the blood stream and potentially lead to problems in the circulatory system. It may be more important than ever to have health, clean teeth and gums if you are at risk for coronary artery disease or stroke.
